If I were an appointed psychologist to a community where the numbers of immigrnats where increasing I might use Participatory action research to see how the community could benefit in a positive way of this particular situation. In order to do this I would have to first gather a group of individuals from the community that would be interested in the same out come. I think for this particular situation gathering leaders from the community as well as business owners and some of the immigrants themselveswould be a good collaboration. Second it is then necessary to implement a plan to help the main objective suceed. So it may be neccesary to come up with some of the issues that are negatively impacted by this situation in order to try and make it into a positive. I know that a lot of the times a big concern is communication or the lack of job opportunities. In order to help combat these situations maybe free language courses could be offered in order to ease a communication barrier. Also community gatherings would be good in order for everyone to have a chance to get to know one another personally. A lot of times I think the fear can be over come if people had the opportunity to meet one another personally. The next step would be to evaluate the the impacts if any the previous steps have created. It is important to see if anyone is attending the community get togethers or if anyone is attending the courses provided and if there is improvments. This would also be a good time to take imput from others to bring in new ideas that could help improve things that are yet to be improving. Latly it would be necessary to reflect on what has been learned and plan on the next steps to continue to improve the main objective or bjectives.
Overall I do believe that action research has the potential to make improvments. I espacially like the fact that this type of research works with real life problems that need to be dealt with and that it allows those that want to participate an equal opportunity to do so.
