MDG 6 COMBAT HIV/AIDS and PREVENTABLE DISEASES
Discussions pertaining to MDG 6 and specific countries, organizations, groups or individuals that work towards this goal will take place here. As delineated by the United Nations, the sixth Millennium Development Goal is: To Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria & Other Diseases by 1) Halting HIV/AIDS by 2015 and beginning to reverse the spread thereof, 2) Achieving universal access to treatment for HIV/AIDS for all those who need it, and 3) Halting by 2015 and beginning to reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases.

French president Nicolas Sarkozy announced that the country would increase its contribution to fight AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis by 20% (bringing it to almost 1.08 billion euros) over the next 2 years.
In his speech Sarkozy mentions the challenges that the world has experienced in the past two years and raise the need to avoid using the economic crises as a pretext to do less toward realization of the MDGs.
