Recently in The Gambia the first round of polio immunizations were scheduled for the 25th to the 28th of March, with the second round of immunizations planned for April 22th to the 25th for children up to 5 years of age. While polio is not a widespread problem globally, there have been recent outbreaks that have been reported in Africa. The Gambian government's campaign is also part of a synchronized effort with other African countries to administer polio vaccines on the same days. As well as working with other countries the Gambian government is also working with other organizations such as the World Health Organization in its campaign against polio. While polio may not be widespread, I think that it is good that the Gambian government is taking preventative measures to prevent polio from becoming a widespread problem.
