Meeting at the Reliance English Secondary Boarding School (RESBS)
We are presenting the concept of EmPeace LABS to different high schools and other stakeholders in Nepal, to check whether the idea is appealing within the local context and how it may does impact the formal educational system.
One of the schools we visited is RESBS, a secondary school located in a small town called Hetauda , four hours' drive from Kathmandu, capital of Nepal. The school has students up to grade 10 and then prepares them to the SLC (Secondary Level Certificate) Exam. The city has no major attraction for tourists, that's one of the reasons it is not well known by the foreigners. Rudeep Rajthala, Member of the UCP SARnet ICT Team in Nepal, is a former student of the school and has benefited a lot from the seriousness and hardworking experience it provided. He wants to give something back to the school of his childhood, and also make a real impact on his community through the UCP SARnet Network and its global resources.
Mr. Keshav Lal Shrestha, the Principal of RESBS has been really attentive and receptive to our visit and is actually willing to pursue some extra curriculum activities under the network. We've presented the idea of EmPeace LABS to the class 9 & 10, promoting the idea of EmPeace LABS hoping that in the nearest future they will organize an EmPeace LABS Club in their high school that will become an agent of change in their lives and in their community. The meeting will be followed by launching a Stand up Against Poverty Event in school, creating a web page for the Club on UCP-SARnet's website, and by initiating multicultural dialog with student clubs in outer schools, including the one in India.
Below are the photos from our meeting with the students and principal Shrestha.
