Resilience and prevention can go hand in hand. Both of these terms can be used in relationship with each other to help a community overcome something. For example, resilience can be used within a community to help change the outcome of something that affects the entire community as a whole and this can be done by using a method of prevention. Like in the videos of the communities in the Philippines and in Nepal the communities are using resilience by teaching methods of prevention from natural disasters. The communities in both of these countries are standing together and fighting natural disasters so that the consequences are not as bad as they have been previously. Another way that resilience ties in with prevention is trying to teach the community how to help children that are born in underprivileged situations that makes them more likely to not become successful in life. As talked about in the video Resiliency happens the method of prevention used to help these children succeed in life is teaching them to improve the skills for dealing with their environment. If these kids are being taught the skills they need then they are more likely to be successful.
When prevention isn't going to work and resilience is needed is during a time of natural disasters as mentioned in the videos. Natural disasters are natural and they cannot be controlled therefore resilience in the community is the only way to overcome these tough situations. Like in the Nepal community the video showed how they are always suffering from earthquakes and floods. Therefore a group of volunteers are teaching the community what to do during these times. If people can contribute to participating in the teaching seminars then when they are faced with these tough times they can support each other in making sure everyone makes the proper decisions to minimize the damages of the natural disasters.
