More than 800,000 anti-malaria bed nets arrived today in Zambia. These beds have been distributed three months ahead of scheduled. This was possible thanks to the Zambia Government, the World Bank, UNICEF, Stanbic Bank Zambia, part of the Standard Bank Group and the United Nations Foundation, supported by the African Leaders Malaria Alliance and the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Malaria. These beds are going to be very helpful especially for the rainy season because children are at higher risk of catching Malaria. The Pledge Guarantee for Health is a new financial tool developed by the UN Foundation, with help from Dalberg Global Development Advisors, and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This is a $4.8 million deal. It will provide anti-malaria bed nets to 1.6 million people and save the lives of thousands of children.
