UNDP Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan are organizing the country’s first International Model UN Security Council Conference to be held in October 2013 in Baku. The theme of the Conference will be “Cyber Security”. The Conference will bring together 45 university students and graduates from Azerbaijan and fourteen other states currently serving as members of the UN Security Council. Selected candidates will participate in a two-day pre-conference training workshop to be organised in collaboration with the UN DPI HQ and followed by a simulated session of the UN Security Council.

As participants in this Model UN Conference, students will be required to step into the shoes of ambassadors to the UN, representing the foreign policy of Security Council member states as accurately as possible. Preparation for and participation in this simulation of the UN Security Council will help students develop research, writing, public speaking and analytical skills, which will prove invaluable throughout their lives. Furthermore, students will learn the value of consensus building, conflict resolution and cooperation and enhance their leadership and inter-personal skills.
