On November 7th, 2011 UCP-SARnet and Forks For Change joined forces to ignite this year's Stand Up Against Poverty event. The event was in support of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals with an emphasis on the goal of, "Ending Poverty and Hunger". Many more organizations came to support our cause including, Samaritan Care Foundation (ASU Chapter), HIV/Aids Awareness club, and ASU4Food all joined in to help. These aforementioned organizations were an essential part in making this Stand Up Event unique. A message that Stand Up Event had to offer to the Arizona State University community is that, talking about what needs to be done is not enough to make a difference. If you want to make a change and there are people with the will power to do it, then the next step is to take action! Our Stand Up Against Poverty event offered students an opportunity to pledge ideas and/or volunteer service. Work is in progress to contact those pledges and offer them different opportunities to take action and make a difference. Together, with the will power to make a change and the actual opportunity to make that change happen, we can pave the path towards a brighter future!
