On January 28, 2009 Mr. Shawn Chen, Founder/President of SIAS International University in Xinzheng (China) visited Arizona State University. First Mr. Chen met with UCP-SARnet's Leadership Team (represented by Dr. Eva Szeli, Kim Eagles, Lavinia Gonzales, Nikhil Sridhar, Soly Einy, Cory Sardarian and Dr. Marek Wosinski) to discuss various options of collaboration between SIAS University and our network. The event was followed by the meeting with Mr. Anthony Rock, ASU Vice President of for Global Engagement during which Mr. Chen and Mr. Rock discussed potential for long term collaboration between SIAS and ASU.
Other participants of the meetings were Ms. Jerrie Ueberle (President of Global Interactions, Inc and member of UCP-SARnet's Advisory Board), Dr. Richard Effland, Dr. Paul Elsner , Dr. Marek Wosinski, Zuduo Zheng and interns from Global Interactions, Inc: Stefan Kojuharov, Rachel Krum and Kasy Morrow. Ms. Dawn Kallestad, Director of Outreach at the Office of ASU Vice President for Global Engagement, participated in the meeting with Mr. Rock.

During the meeting with UCP-SARnet team Mr. Chen was informed by our team about the history and mission of the network, individual involvement of student members, organization of the portal and network's plans for the future. As a result of discussion both parties agreed to develop of a close collaboration between SIAS University and UCP-SARnet. Initially this collaboration will include the following actions:
- organization of a team of students at SIAS who will create a team of Regional Coordinators for China;
- UCP-SARnet's participation in organization of 10th Anniversary Celebrations of SIAS in May 2009 by coordinating virtual interactions between SIAS's students and UCP-SARnet members from universities around the world;
- in May 2009 UCP-SARnet network will be introduced to SIAS faculty and students; both groups will be invited to utilize UCP-SARnet in the process of instruction/learning.;
- in May 2010 SIAS together with UCP-SARnet will organize a conference for UCP-SARnet members.
During the meeting with the Mr. Anthony Rock, Vice President of ASU, Mr. Chen presented detailed information about educational mission, organization and plans of SIAS International University, and discussed with Mr. Rock potential for collaboration that would be beneficial for both parties. In conclusion the decision was made that the collaboration will begin with exchange of students on undergraduate level. In the future SIAS may direct its alumni to graduate programs at ASU. Other options for further discussion could be an exchange of faculty and utilizing of online programs and courses offered by ASU. The issue of sustainability was identified as a potential common interest for future collaboration. Finally, developing a relationship with UCP-SARnet will constitute another form of collaboration.
