Few months ago we started to organize few EmPeace LABS clubs in high school. One of them is Anubhuti School in Jalgaon build at the Headquarters of Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. (JISL), as another tool next to Gandhi Research Foundation allowing to implement Gandhi's legacy. The school was created as a co-educational residential school based on the vision of ShriBhavarlal Jain, the Founder and Chairman of JISL Located about fifty km away from the famous Ajanta Caves, a World Heritage site, the schools is not only providing high quality education, but also instills in the basic values promoted by Mahatma Gandhi.
As Jalgaon is the place where we have yearly EmPeaceLaBS leadership workshops, and students from the school always interact with the participants, it seemed to be almost natural that one of the first EmPeace LABS high school clubs should be located in Jalgaon. Therefore few months ago, with the help of Mr. Ashish Kumar, one of the teachers, we identified a small group of students who wanted to create the club. As a member of UCP-SARnet's ICT Team I was assisting in creating of a similar club in one of the high schools in Kathmandu (Neapal), so Anabuthi School invited me to visit Jalgaonfor 3 days and help the group to organize itself.
During the first meeting with the students I presented the concept and the mission of the club.Initially, there were many students of different grades who wanted to be members of the club and from this group I selected the best ones. During the second meeting I discussed with them how to make their webpage interesting and creative. During the third and last meeting we planned how to organize Stand Up Against Poverty event. Altogether so many studentsparticipated in the development of the club. I had a great opportunity to meet with numerous teachers, who exceptionally care for their students. One of them was English teacher, Mrs. PoojaDespandey who expressed a lot of interest in our project and agreed to be the mentor of the club.
As a result of my visit, we created the club with 15 members. Mrs. PoojaDespandeyas a tutor will have two students(Harshil Jain and Samkit Sancheti) who will serve a "captains" of the club.. We created professional profiles for 12 students and 3 teachers including principle of the school, Mr. BhaskaramenonKrishnakumar and Mr. Ashish Kumar. I am especially grateful to both of them for helping me to collaborate with student and making my stay comfortable and feeling in Jalgaon as at home.
Altogether, it was a great experience for me to visit this exceptional school, to meeting with excellent teacher and first and foremost to meet these talented and passionate students. It is just amazing to see the potential, the motivation and love these kids have. I am positive they will have to offer a lot to students from other countries when we really being the multicultural dialog between the clubs.
