MDG 1 END POVERTY AND HUNGER
Discussions pertaining to MDG 1 and specific countries, organizations, groups or individuals that work towards this goal will take place here. As delineated by the United Nations, the first Millennium Development Goal is: To Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger worldwide by 1) Halving between 1990 and 2015 the proportion of people whose income is less than $1 a day, 2) Achieving full and productive employment and decent work for all, including women and young people, and 3) Halving between 1990 and 2015 the proportion of people who suffer from Hunger.

A 3 year study tracked the poverty among Canada's citizens, resulting the government to make specific steps in it's government to help those in poverty. This is a step the government is taking to help its poorest citizens. The measurements suggested would include helping families with children, a long term plan for the homeless, and helping the indigineous among the country. The address makes several plans to help reduce the poverty found in Canada, a progress to MDG goal 1.
Food companies have long donated money and surplus food to fight hunger in Africa, “but some of the biggest firms are now plowing people and money into a new strategy aimed at helping the continent feed itself.”

Spain is attempting a long term action plan to both help the poor and small farm owners. The ultimate goal is to eradicate poverty by using local farmers.
Spain has just passed a bill to increase the amount of help given to rural areas to support themselves. The bill sets aside 300 million dollars to help eradicate poverty and increase a reservoir for food. The bill steps in the right direction not only to lessen poverty, but also to allow its citizens (rural and small farmers) to benefit and help one another. The bill is suppose to allow for a 45 year progress, one of the longest known steps to eradicting poverty for good.
