For those of you who might not know, Vanuatu is an archipelago of 80 islands in the Pacific located in one of the most seismically active areas in the world and has about 105 indigenous languages (3). Yet in the past, Vanuatu's school enrollment and attendance was among the lowest in the Pacific (1). In 2004, only 72% of students were completing primary education (1). However, Vanuatu is on it's way to meeting the MDG of universal primary education. Starting in 2011, free primary education will be provided for all school years 1 through 6 (2). Vt 6,800 will go to every child for their education thanks to money provided by Australia, New Zealand, and UNICEF (2). Vanuatu's ministry of education has set significant goals as well. One of which being to eliminate all primary school fees by 2012, providing the same service to school years 7 and 8 and secondary schools (2). So a round of applause to Vanuatu.
